I have been a practicing patent attorney for over 15 years with a background in physics and engineering. I run my own firm Patwrite Law that specializes in working with private inventors and small businesses. I taught high school physics for many years before going to law school I build and fly RC airplanes for fun.

Restoring hope, one client at a time. As an Iowa disability lawyer, I am driven by that one goal; it has been my personal and professional mission since I first began representing disabled Iowans in 1996. Prior to that, I worked for the Social Security Administration, as one of their attorneys in NYC. I have seen first-hand how a large government bureaucracy can frustrate and confuse even the most determined claimant. I am driven to restore hope to disabled Iowans as I guide them through Social Security disability process.

I grew up in Strawberry Point where my family still resides. Since graduating from the University Of Iowa College Of Law in 2007 I have worked in Waterloo, where I have also become involved in my church and local bar association. While I practice in the areas of child custody and dissolution of marriage, I also understand that persons with children are connected as a family. I therefore strive to work through these family issues with the long-term in mind. I continue to practice primarily in family law.

Athena Farmakis was born and raised in the Chicagoland area, graduated with a B.A. from Northwestern University, and received her law degree from DePaul University College of law.
