Before law school, I was going to be a Professor of Spanish Literature because I love books and learning about people and cultures. But a few things came up along my way into academia—kids. My oldest are twins and were born just before I finished as an undergraduate at BYU. My third was born when I was finishing up graduate school at Stanford. Number four came along part way through law school. I love being a father and I discovered that people are far more interesting than books. Being an attorney empowers me to help resolve problems.

Since starting my practice in 2003, I have emphasized the provision of competent legal services at a cost which is adjusted for the client's particular situation. Hiring a lawyer is expensive for many reasons, but to the extent possible, I have tried to right size the fees we charge the client with the client's household income.

I'm a lawyer but I believe if conflict resolution is structured correctly it is likely that your best behaviors will be promoted and there will be less needless provoking of your fears. I've seen settlements shoved down confused litigants in mediation. I've seen divorces that have made bad situations worse and only benefitted the attorneys. I've been at hearings where it is obvious the commissioner has not read the paperwork and seen judge's reach decisions that make both sides shake their heads. I have faith that with proper assistance clients are best able to determine what is just and reasonable.
