I was a late bloomer. I didn't even start on my undergraduate degree until I was 35. Perseverence pays off, however. I made it all the way through undergrad and law school and have been practicing since 1994. Much of that time was spent as a solo practitioner, but I have a colleague who is an equal owner with me. My practice is limited to estate planning (wills and trusts), probate, guardianship/conservatorships and all aspects of family law (divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, property division, etc.)

As a member of the Smith, Paulson, O’Donnell and Associates team, I work with highly skilled attorneys, including a certified real property specialist and a certified labor and employment specialists, to provide comprehensive care to the needs of my clients. I am a seasoned trial lawyer with over a decade of courtroom experience. I welcome complex family law matters including, but not limited to, divorce, child custody, child protection and child support. As a former prosecutor I offer my criminal defense clients aggressive, and highly competent, protection of their constitutional and statutory rights.

For over 20 years I have been defending people charged with criminal offenses. I defend cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. I also practice family law, mainly divorce cases. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and my Juris Doctorate from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul MN. Dan Donnelly is an experienced trial attorney with over 200 trials before both Judges and Juries. He has successfully defended individuals facing significant prison time for sexual assault, domestic violence, drug, and DWI related offenses. In Family Court he has successfully tried or negotiated favorable results regarding custody and property division for his clients. Mr. Donnelly and his experienced paralegal, Lucia Luna, have procured visas, green cards, and citizenship for individuals in the Austin area and beyond for over 12 years. Together they have an extensive knowledge of consular processing, especially Mexico.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Chris served eight years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and Russian translator for Military Intelligence. He continued in government service as a prosecuting attorney; a position for which he made hundreds of court appearances.
