Q. In California, what is the difference between a case being expunged and a case being sealed?
A: A record is usually sealed as a juvenile which prevents the public from viewing your record unless they get permission from the presiding Judge. Expungment is a process where if you complete probation and have no cases pending, on certain cases where you did not go to State Prison, you can have the case dismissed in the interests of justice. The entry will however be visible on your criminal record should the public have access.
Q. Is there a way to transfer your case n probation
A: Yes, you can bring a motion in court to transfer your probation to another jurisdiction. If the court finds there are reasonable grounds to do so, that may be accomplished depending on the case.
