Ms. Simmons earned her bachelor’s degree in political science at Central Michigan University, where she attended on a CMU Honors Scholarship. She earned her juris doctor from Cooley Law School, where she was on the Cooley Law Review, the Honor Roll and the Dean’s List. She also received the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Advocacy and Products Liability. Steven Kaplan, a 1981 honors graduate of Detroit College of Law, served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Macomb County for 24 years, and for Wayne County for two years. He has been a member of the M.S.U. College of Law faculty since 1998, teaching trial advocacy and advance evidence courses.
