Fountain County Criminal Lawyers

I have been practicing law for 28 years with a focus on criminal law for 26 of those years. I have been a public defender in Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Orange counties. I practice in those counties as well as Scott, Crawford, Washington, Jefferson. I am also licensed in Kentucky, practicing only in Jefferson county on that side of the river. I have handled murder cases as well as all other high level felony matters. I also handle low level felonies, misdemeanors and traffic infraction cases. I am a trial attorney with plenty of trial experience.

Attorney Heidi R Cortez was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she still has family. She graduated from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis with a degree in Forensic and Investigative Sciences with an emphasis in Biology. While obtaining her degree, she interned at Marion County Coroners Office. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law – Houston. I graduated cum laude from Drake University Law School where I was Chairman of our Moot Court Team, arguing in national competition. I greatly enjoyed learning the law and was a member of, and wrote for the Drake Law Review. In my third year the University allowed me to double my academic hours and graduate a semester early, which had not before been extended to a Drake law student.
