Robert Colby

My area of practice is helping entrepreneurs and established small businesses in New Jersey to prosper and grow. I have represented many types of businesses, from the college partnership to the thriving manufacturer, in everything from contract drafting to commercial litigation to employee handbooks. As a small business owner myself, I understand the personal connection a business owner has to the business. I also represent both landlords and tenants in residential tenancy matters.
Our firm strongly believes every client should know their attorney on a personal level. To that end, let me tell you a little more about me. I was born in the California Bay Area and grew up in the heyday of the Silicon Valley. My father taught high school math and my mother still teaches fourth grade to this day. I have one sister, who stayed in the Bay Area and is a political activist who advocates for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.
I attended Mission San Jose High School and was active in leadership and environmentalism. I was an Eagle Scout and way too into ska music. Through much of high school I was also the world's worst waiter at Market Broiler restaurant, so if you ate there at the time, please accept my sincere apologies.
In college, I was a huge football fan and discovered a love of road trips that took me to every U.S. state in under 18 months. I once drove from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico without sleeping or stopping except for gas and snacks.
Before law school I was a freelance writer for several encyclopedia companies including Gale Reference and Salem Press. Today, as an attorney I most enjoy working with small business owners because I strongly believe it is that passion which drives our economy and best exemplifies our American freedom.
