Biography

I am Robert Almonte II, an award-winning trial lawyer with a decade of experience in both federal and state prosecution. My work has earned national recognition from the Department of Justice Executive Office for United States Attorneys for superior performance. I am adept at managing complex criminal cases and understanding the nuances of criminal law and penalties.

I hold both an undergraduate degree and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law. My legal journey began as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA), where my commitment and abilities led to my appointment by then-Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Western District of Texas. In this role, I prosecuted a diverse array of offenses including bank robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, hate crimes, environmental crimes, fraud, human trafficking, child pornography, firearms violations, and civil rights violations. I also managed civil and criminal asset forfeiture cases, involving the seizure of both real and personal property by the government.

For most of my tenure as a prosecutor, I was part of the Complex Fraud and Public Corruption Unit, leading investigations and prosecutions in significant cases related to white-collar crime, public corruption, health care fraud, procurement fraud, tax violations, wire fraud, and other financial crimes. My rigorous work in these areas has solidified my reputation as a determined and proficient advocate in federal court. I have handled thousands of cases from indictment to trial, acquiring extensive courtroom experience.

Additionally, I am an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where I teach white-collar crime.
