Nance Schick
Holistic Employment Attorney and Mediator
Nance L. Schick is an employment lawyer and mediator based in New York City, where her firm now known as Third Ear Conflict Resolution has been based since 2003. Author of DIY CONFLICT RESOLUTION, she gives legal advice to employers with workers in New York State and resolves workplace disputes worldwide—before they end up in court.
Prior to law school, she worked in Human Resources and operations management at United Parcel Service, where she developed an interest in employment law. Planning to go to law school in the off seasons, she spent a few years working in Sport Administration, consistent with her undergraduate degree. Her career in sport was cut short by a lawsuit that continued into her legal studies.
"I learned civil procedure in the courtroom and classroom simultaneously," she says. "I also saw the possibilities in mediation, although my former employer failed to appear."
Nance is certified in employment and ethno-religious mediation, and she served for two years as the Main Representative to the United Nations for the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation. She frequently assists journalists writing on conflict resolution, mediation, workplace disputes, domestic employment, independent contractors, and polyvictimization. Additionally, you can also find her coaching future mediators in the MediateArt program at Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts or at NYC law schools.
