Biography

Attorney Michael G. Floyd, born on October 17, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the youngest of eleven children. During his time at Roxborough High School, he was actively involved as the President of the Black Student Union and a member of the chess club. His athletic excellence in football and track earned him a scholarship to Le Moyne-Owen College in Memphis.

He later transferred to Tennessee State University, where he became deeply engaged in civil rights activism, notably participating in demonstrations and the landmark case Garner v. Tennessee, which was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and graduated in 1978 with a B.S. in History and a minor in Sociology.

Attorney Floyd earned his Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University Law School in 1982. He is admitted to multiple bars, including the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Sixth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

With extensive experience in death penalty, medical malpractice, civil rights, police brutality, and employment discrimination cases, Attorney Floyd has served in various judicial capacities, including as an Arbitration Judge and Special Judge for Memphis City Court. He has also held leadership roles in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Tennessee. Currently, he practices privately and serves as outside litigation counsel for the Memphis Shelby County Education Association.

Attorney Floyd is married to June Alice Floyd, a Shelby County educator. He is a dedicated member of his church and is involved in several organizations, including the Memphis Bar Association, Memphis NAACP, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He remains committed to service with a vision for a better Memphis and Shelby County.
