Mark Cheser
All Superior and Municipal Courts in NJ
I was born and raised in NJ. graduating Emory Law School, Atlanta Georgia in 1978. I was a Governor's Intern assigned to the Union County Prosecutor in 1977 while in Law School and became an Assistant Prosecutor there,1980-83. I was assigned to the Appellate Section, Juvenile Section, Assignment Judge's Trial Team, Elizabeth Project Trial Team, and the Narcotic Strike Force, handling over 300 files and trying 28 case to verdict. I learned how the police and prosecutors think and act.
I have only practiced criminal defense since leaving the Prosecutor's Office, first as a partner at Nassberg & Cheser 1983-1988, and then a solo practitioner from 1988- to the present, altogether 35 years. The N.J.Supreme Court designated me a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney in 1989, a distinction held by less than 1% of the bar. The Supreme Court has reissued this certification four times through to the present. I was named Master of the Richard Hughes Inn of Court, the highest designation of that organization, an association of trial attorneys and Judges. Super Lawyer magazine has listed me numerous times. All of these entities can be contacted to verify the status and method of awarding recognition.
I have handled cases from murder to speeding and have represented thousands of clients. I have appeared in nearly all the Municipal and Superior Courts of N.J. as well as the Federal District Court of N.J. I handle all cases in the office personally.
My office philosophy is to prepare and argue every case, no matter how minor the charge, as if it is a homicide. I always attempt to resolve matters with the least risk to my clients at the lowest cost possible. The aim in every case is dismissal or acquittal. I hate to lose.

- Q. Seeking legal advice on fabricated accusations and medical situation affecting hearings.
- A: MOre information is needed. Are you a US citizen? What is your question? What are the hearings? Why were incarcerated? Why were you released? It sounds like an immigration attorney may be a better bet.
- Q. Can a parole officer request email and password?
- A: More information is needed. Can't say without kowing the conditons of parole or the reason for it. On pron crimes I k ow it is usually a conditon to monitor on line use.
- Q. Will my uninsured 19-year-old face jail time for careless driving in NJ?
- A: More information is needed. Was there a licensed driver with him? If not they can write a driving without a license. I think they have 90 days. They also can write a driving with no insurance but they did not as yet, but again I think they have 90 days. (the normal SOL is 30 days but i think these charges are the loger SOL). They could be giving a break or they could write more. Was he driving your car? if so they can get you for allowing him to drive without a license and allowing him to drive an uninsured car. They aslo can file a no insurance charge against the owner of the vehicle. Is there a problem? I cannot say but there sure could be. At 19 the courts do not consider him a child. On the ... Read More
