John Rizvi
Board Certified Patent Attorney & Adjunct Professor of Patent Law
My name is John Rizvi - The Patent Professor ®. For a FREE consultation about your new idea, call me at 1-866-526-8391.
Having been an Adjunct Professor of Patent Law for over 18 years at Nova Law School, I've developed a plain and easy-to-understand approach to patents that I've perfected during my career.
I offer competitive flat-fee services for patent work so you don't have to deal with the uncertainty of budgeting for legal work on an hourly-fee basis.
I am a Board Certified Specialist in patents and one of the first attorneys in the country to receive this recognition.
Prior to starting my practice, I received my training from the best patent attorneys in the world at the legendary New York City patent powerhouse of Fish & Neave. My former law firm patented the Wright Brothers airplane, Thomas Edison's lightbulb, and Alexander Graham Bell's telephone.
Former clients of mine have sold their patent rights for over $100 million dollars, prompting me to author the best-selling book, Think & Grow Rich for Inventors, endorsed by Kevin Harrington, one of the original sharks on Shark Tank responsible for the launch of over 500 products with gross world-wide sales of over 5 billion dollars.
I am AV-rated by Martindale Hubbel and have a 10/10 AVVO rating and am one of the first attorneys in the country to be Board Certified as a specialist in patent law.

- Q. Suppose I apply for a patent. While I am waiting, can I request that the title (name) of my patent be changed?
- A: Yes, if you have filed for a patent and want to change the title, you have two options depending upon what type of patent you have applied for. If it is a PROVISIONAL PATENT APPLICATION, you can submit the proper title when you convert to a NON-PROVISIONAL PATENT.
If, on the other hand, the patent you filed with the erroneous title is a NON-PROVISIONAL PATENT APPLICATION, you can file a “preliminary amendment” and have the title changed.
- Q. Patents are granted to CYTOVIA how long is the patent in effect
- A: A U.S. utility patent is good for 20 years after filing.
On the other hand, a U.S. Design patent is valid for 14 years after issuance.
