Mr. Brown is admitted to practice in Washington and California and has been practicing law for over 45 years. He is the managing partner at Phillips, Krause & Brown. His practice emphasizes Elder Law which includes estate planning, Medicaid planning and qualification, preparation of wills, trusts (including special needs trusts), durable powers of attorney and other documents, probate, guardianship and litigation in those areas. Professor Brown has also handled numerous adult protection and tort claims for elderly, incapacitated and injured people including several cases where the verdict or settlement amount exceeded $1,000,000.
Mr. Brown is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member, current Board Member and past president of the Washington Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, was voted Member of the year in 2010, and was awarded the WA NAELA "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2023.
He is also a past member of the Executive Committee for the Elder Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association where he has served as co-chair for communications, a member and past president of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Advisory Committee for Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties, a long term "Eagle" member of the Washington Association for Justice, a former bar examiner for the Washington State Bar Association and remains active in many professional organizations.
Mr. Brown is also an adjunct Professor of Elder and Disability Law at Seattle University Law School where he continually taught Elder Law and Advanced Elder Law from 2005 to 2020. Professor Brown continues to mentor law students and recent graduates regarding Elder Law issues.
Mr. Brown is a frequent speaker at continuing education programs for lawyers, as well as community education programs about the law.
