Like many of you, I am also an immigrant to this country. I was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to the United States in 2001 after marrying an American citizen. Back home, I studied law at the Universidad Regional del Norte in Chihuahua. However, as many immigrants know, no matter who you were in your home country, arriving in the U.S. without knowing English can make you feel like you're starting from scratch.
Leaving behind my family, my homeland, and everything familiar was a challenge, but I was determined not to give up on my dream of becoming an attorney and helping others. I worked tirelessly to learn English so I could continue my education in the U.S. Five years after arriving, I earned a degree in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. In 2008, I graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University School of Law, and by 2009, I had opened my own law firm.

- Q. Concerns about consular officers rejecting I-130 visa due to my stay abroad
- A: It is hard to know from the facts provided if you are an LPR or a US citizen spouse, if you are a legal permanent resident that has been outside the United States for several months living abroad with your wife and children, that could be a reason for a denial if you don't have evidence of you continue to have significant ties to this country like a job, a mortgage, etc
