Edward S Sherman
Registered Patent Attorney with broad technical expertise
As a patent attorney, I strive to help my clients to identify, protect and exploit their valuable intellectual rights for a long term competitive advantage.
I prepare and prosecute patent applications for clients that have invented new products or processes in a wide variety of technical fields, as well as consumer product inventions.
What distinguishes me from other patent practitioners is how I aim to work with clients to increase the chances of obtaining patents. I strongly advocate and assist clients in the lost art of patent “research”. Patent “research” is collaborating with your attorney in planning and conducting experiments that will support the case for patentability (in spite of recent Supreme Court rulings that have made it easier for patent examiners to fabricate almost any reason to reject patent claims as obvious).
I also help clients avoid legal liability for patent and trademark infringement by searching and analyzing competitive marks and patents. Frequently, this leads to specific advice on how to engineer and design products and processes so they do not infringe third party patents. When this is not possible, I help clients structure licensing agreements.
Specialties: Patent Application and Prosecution expertise includes:
Engineering, computer software, business methods, materials sciences, including organic and polymer chemistry/polymer science, thin film and semiconductor processing, electronic packaging, optics, instrumentation, display technology, biotechnology and medical devices
