- Q. While on paid suspension from work,I did not get paid for the days I didn't work and was also fired without notice
- A: Unfortunately, Georgia is an "at will" state which means that you can be terminated with or without notice, for cause or without cause. Unless you are covered by an employment agreement an employer may terminate your employment without notice, assuming that you have not been terminated for an illegal reason, such as discrimination or whistleblowing under certain statutes. As to the paid suspension, the answer would depend upon the employers policies and what was agreed upon prior to the suspension. It is very fact specific so it is not possible to give you a definitive response. If you feel you were unjustly terminated, I would suggest you consult a local attorney.
- Q. Is a job allowed to deny an employee the ability to work from home when the employee is undergoing chemotherapy?
- A: If your employer employs 15 or more employees they are required to provide reasonable accommodation for an employee with a disability. Depending upon the nature of the industry and the type of work you do, work from home may or may not be reasonable.
- Q. I am an only child.Dad's estate is approx.$25,000.No other heirs.He died intestate.Can I file Small Estate affidavit?
- A: You may file a Petition with the court to dispense with administration. The judge will determine if there are other heirs or creditors by advertising in the county of residence or where property is located.
