Cortney has 20 years of litigation experience, serving as lead counsel in over 120 patent-infringement litigations. He also represents clients in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (e.g., IPR proceedings) and in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

• S.M.R Innovations v. Apple (W.D. Tex.), Motorola (D. Del.), LG, and Samsung (E.D. Tex.): Lead counsel in cases involving patents for routing multimedia between electronic devices.
• POWERbahn (N.D. Ga.): Represented technology innovator in asserting patents related to exercise equipment that better simulated real-life conditions. Claims resolved after district court denied Defendants’ motions for summary judgment of invalidity and noninfringement.
• DigiMedia Tech: Lead counsel in 11 patent litigations involving portfolio of 100 patents.
• Diatek Licensing: Lead counsel in 24 patent litigations involving streaming technology, and related IPR proceeding.
• Bright Capture: Lead counsel in 15 patent litigations involving image processing technology.
• Sunflower Licensing: Lead counsel in 21 patent litigations asserting patent portfolio involving video processing technology.
• Mallard Licensing: Lead counsel in 19 litigations asserting patent relating to DDR4 memory.
• 21st Century Garage: Lead counsel in cases against several automakers asserting patent portfolio comprising 70+ U.S. patents.
