
Christopher Michael Barkley

Attorney Christopher M. Barkley joined the McCathern Los Angeles office as a partner in 2018, and is head of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. He focuses his practice on patent matters, particularly assisting clients in obtaining and exploiting patent rights. In addition to his patent practice, Mr. Barkley advises clients on other technology-related matters such as the protection and enforcement of trade secrets, as well as trademarks and copyrights.
For over a decade, Mr. Barkley has been a practicing attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a wide range of technical fields. Mr. Barkley also has experience with preparing and negotiating licensing agreements, providing patent clearance evaluations, rendering patent infringement and validity opinions, and establishing foreign patent rights.
Mr. Barkley has experience working with large corporations as well as small business owners handling all of their intellectual property needs. He enjoys working closely with clients to develop and implement intellectual property strategies to best add value to their business endeavors.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Barkley worked at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company as an engineer on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and he earned his law degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California, where he was editor of the Southwestern Law Review.
