Brad Smith is a Junior Partner with Galfand Berger, LLP. He proudly advocates on behalf of injured workers, consumers, and victims of negligence. Since 2015, Brad has partnered with other Galfand Berger attorneys to recover over $36 million for his clients. Brad has represented workers and consumers injured by a wide variety of defective products, including conveyors, aerial lifts, cranes, poorly guarded industrial machines, coffee pots, shrink-wrapping machines, and printing equipment. In addition to victims of defective products, Brad has successfully represented clients injured due to medical malpractice and in construction accidents, automobile accidents, and trip and fall incidents.
Along with Galfand Berger partners Mike Malvey and Farhan Ali, Brad fought on behalf of a catastrophically injured client to win an appeal at the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in a unanimous decision. Bourgeois v. Snow Time, Inc., 242 A.3d 637 (Pa. 2020).
Outside the courtroom, Brad serves on the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Council. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Civil Litigation Section’s Newsletter. Brad has published numerous essays and articles regarding products liability and the legal rights of injured workers. In 2016, Brad won first place in the College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers' national writing competition with an article on the “gig economy.” The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry then invited Brad to speak as a panelist on the gig economy at its 2018 and 2021 Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Conferences. In 2015, Brad won the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Centennial Essay Contest for his essay on workers’ mental disabilities caused by mental stress.
