I hold a Juris Doctor from Ave Maria School of Law, Ann Arbor, Michigan, obtained in 2005, and a B.A. from the University of Michigan, earned in 2002.

- Q. I spank my step child with a belt,and was charge with 948.03(2)(b) . What is the worse that could happen?
- A: This offense would be a class H felony, exposing you to six years in the state prison system and/or a $10,000 fine.
There are also many other consequences to becoming a convicted felon.
I highly recommend that you get an attorney on board as soon as possible.
- Q. I was arrested for owi and possesion of marijuana and controlled substance why aren't charges filed yet
- A: Often, criminal complaints (aka “charges”) are not actually filed until your first scheduled court date.
If it is your first OWI, it is also very possible that all of these offenses might be handled as civil ordinance violations and not criminal charges.
It is pretty complex stuff. I highly recommend obtaining counsel.

- A: Not necessarily in a criminal sense. Normally, there might be the chance of civil liability. But, most universities have sovereign immunity based on their relationship to the state.
